Waveform 06

This is another one of my Scanograms, which I created for the first assignment of a digital photography class I'm taking this semester. It reminded me of a waveform one would visually use to visually represent a sound, hence the title.

Like the other Scanograms in this series, I created this by waving the reflective side of a mirror over a flat-bed scanner. The cover had to be removed for this, so the room had to also be completely dark for the scan to be in optimal conditions.
If I would leave the mirror flat above the scanner, the scan would turn out a plain sky blue color as the scanner scans its reflection. However, if the mirror were shaken periodically, one would get something like this. This is another one of the "Morse Code" scanograms. The thin lines produced were products of exposing the scanner to the mirror for blips of seconds before retracting the reflective surface.

The mirror was dirty, so I tried to get rid of a number of smudges and water stains using healing brush and cloning tools in Photoshop. Otherwise, this is the raw image.

Finally, I don't exactly know which category this (or scanograms in general) would go under, I just said photography because this was made for a digital photography class and using a scanner to "photograph" the motions of the mirror as the scanner scanned it, and I said Abstract because abstract because the Gallery Info description seemed to fit what I would describe this piece as too.
